(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
The word “Kahuna” originates from the Hawaiian language, referring to an expert in any field; in Hawaii historically, it would have been used to refer to medical or religious experts. The term carried into English with the beach film genre of the late 1950s and early 1960s (with films such as Gidget or Beach Blanket Bingo), with “Big Kahuna” referring to the top surfer on the beach. It was this that caused surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku to be given the nickname “Big Kahuna”; however, Duke generally disliked this nickname and rejected it, as he would not see himself as worthy of the association with the term “Kahuna”.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- “Contestants often underbet Daily Doubles and overbet Final Jeopardy”. Today was another case of that for sure.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Ferdinand $21,600 Amy $13,800 Kirsten $800)
Amy: For the best chance of winning, you have to bet at least $1,800. I’d bet $12,200 here as that’s the most you can bet while still keeping Kirsten locked out for second. (Actual bet: $13,799)
Ferdinand: Standard cover bet over Amy is $6,001. There’s no need to go higher, just in case Amy doesn’t bet enough—and it’s happened enough times over the years that it’s not worth betting the extra money. (Actual bet: $7,801)
Kirsten: Bet whatever you like. (Actual bet: $800)
