How do I set up my NETGEAR WiFi range extender using WPS?

WPS does not support WEP network security or a hidden SSID network.

To set up your extender using WPS:

  1. If your extender has an Access Point/Extender switch, set it to Extender.
  2. Plug in your extender in the same room as your router.

    The Power LED lights.

If the Power LED does not light, press the Power or On/Off button.
  3. Wait for the LEDs on your extender to stabilize.

This can take a few minutes.

  4. If this is not your first time setting up your extender, perform a factory reset.

For more information, see How do I perform a factoryreset on my NETGEAR WiFi range extender?.

  5. Press the WPS button on your extender.

    The WPS LED blinks.

  6. Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.

The extender WPS LED lights and stays solid.

  7. Unplug the extender and move it to a new location that is approximately halfway between your router and the area with a poor WiFisignal.
  8. Plug in your extender and wait for the Power LED to light.

Use the Router Link LED to help you choose a spot where the extender-to-router connection is optimal.

  9. Connect your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device to the extended network.

Depending on your specific extender, the extended network name is one of the following:

    • The same as your original network: MyWiFiExample
    • The same as your original network with _EXT added: MyWiFiExample_EXT
    • The same as your original network with _2GEXT or _5GEXT added: MyWiFiExample_2GEXT, MyWiFiExample_5GEXT
    • The same as your original network with _2G or _5G added: MyWiFiExample_2G, MyWiFiExample_5G

The password for the extended network is the same as the password for your original network.
