Netflix's latest docuseries, "America's Sweethearts," follows new and returning members of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders as they audition for the squad and kick off the 2023 football season.
Viewers get an in-depth look at the experience and get to know several veteran cheerleaders, including Kelcey Wetterberg, who is in her fifth and final year with the squad at the time of filming.
Throughout the seven-episode series, Kelcey opens up about her time as a cheerleader and her life off the field with her boyfriend, Nate Crnkovich, who proposes onscreen.
During the docuseries, Kelcey described Nate as a sweetheart and said, “He’s kind, he’s charismatic, he’s empathetic. He’s my best friend.”
He echoed her sentiments, saying, “I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with her without a doubt. I love her more than anything.”

Who is Kelcey Wetterberg?
Kelcey was a member of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders for five years. During the 2023 season, she was a first group leader.
Off the field, she works full time as a nurse and can be seen caring for one of her patients during the docuseries. Kelcey currently lists herself as a pediatric registered nurse on her Instagram page.
Who is Nate Crnkovich?
Nate is an actor who has appeared in an HBO show called "Minx" and a Lifetime movie called "Love at First Like."
In "America's Sweethearts," Nate reveals that he put his acting dreams on hold for to support his Kelcey in her cheerleading career.
"I do want to continue with acting. I think it's just been something kind of put on the back burner. Especially once I moved to Dallas for Kelcey, that made things difficult," he says in a confessional interview.
Kelcey expresses her gratitude for Nate's support in her own interview, saying, "He was really passionate about acting, but he sacrificed a lot for me to be here and do this, so now it's my turn."
They've been together since 2020
The lovebirds have been dating since 2020. In June 2021, Kelcey posted the following social media shout-out to her beau after they'd been together for half a year.
“6 months together and he’s already dealt with my apartment fire, saved Lucy from the building, helped me move to a new place, has seen way too much of my emotions, and still likes me somehow ... I’ll keep him 🥰,” she wrote.
Kelcey and Nate celebrated their first anniversary in November 2021. At the time, Nate shared several photos of the pair, including one of Kelcey in her cheerleader uniform.
“Happy 1 year pretty girl, and here’s to many more. Unbelievably thankful for you every single day. I love you Kelc❤️,” he captioned the post.
Kelcey also shared the same photo on Instagram to celebrate the occasion, writing, "One year together & many more to come, I love you more than anything ♥️."
They broke up briefly
While filming an “America’s Sweethearts” confessional interview, Kelcey reveals that the couple broke up “for a little bit” when Nate was “pursuing acting.”
“I was (a) Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and working as a nurse. Both (of us) were really focused on our careers and it just wasn’t the time for us,” she said.
They got engaged in September 2023
The couple found their way back to each other and went on to get engaged.
During the docuseries, Nate reveals his plans to propose to Kelcey and transforms a couple photo shoot into a surprise engagement. Afterwards, the cheerleader squad surprises Kelcey with an engagement party.
After Nate popped the question on Sept. 9, 2023, Kelcey shared several photos from the big day on her Instagram page.
"What a surprise!!! Nate, you are the man of my dreams! You make life so bright and full of love. Our love story has brought so much happiness and growth to my life, & now we get to write a new chapter! I’ll love you forever, I can’t wait to be your wife!!!!!" she captioned the post.
Nate also shared a few photos on Instagram, writing, "Mrs. Crnkovich sounds pretty good to me 😉 Thank you to all the amazing people in our life who helped make Saturday so special. I love you Kelcey!!!"
They shared more engagement photos a few months later
A few months after getting engaged, the couple shared more pictures from their engagement photo shoot and Kelcey posted a sweet and comedic caption: "Just grateful to have someone to handle my flat tires ~forever~ I love you!!"
They're getting married in 2024
To celebrate Nate's 29th birthday, Kelcey shared two photos on Instagram, along with a loving caption that shed some light on when they're going to tie the knot.
"Happy birthday to my future husband," she captioned the post. "You are the most selfless, kind, and patient man I’ve known. Cheers to 29 & the year we get married."
